Damage Thinking

Proverbs 4:23- Above all things, Guard your heart for everything you do flows from it.
Something critical/ crucial happened which urged me to write this blog. Before going any further, let me remind you that I am not a politician nor do I report the news. However, what has happened left me so shaken I think it’s only right that I speak on it. My heart was not set on writing about this but I wouldn't be a haitian blogger if I dismissed this grandiose event. I am sure a great percentage of you have heard that Jovenel Moise, the president of Haiti was assassinated.
On Wednesday July 7th at approximately 1:00-1:30am, a group of men, part of which were Colombians, entered the President's private residence and killed him. According to the news he was shot 12 times. His wife also got shot but is currently recovering. I heard the news just before I left the house that morning and to be completely honest I was distorted. Hurt is an understatement. My entire day was trashed.
The perception of power has screwed us all. Being in power, being of power, not knowing when to step down from power, all of that have created a big mess. We have been fighting over power for years and it has not led us to anything positive. I’ve heard of presidential assassinations before but never did I think I’d live through one. From my perspective, no matter how personal things may have been between the people who arrange to kill the President and the President, it doesn’t give them the right to take his life. Beyond the title, he was a human being, a father, a husband, a son to a mother. Apparently, those who killed him did not value any of that.
If you ask me, I am certain that my country suffers from a severe case of damage thinking. We need mental surgery. We need to be transformed by the renewal of our mind as the Bible instructs us to. I will admit, we need help. Not simple financial, governmental, or physical help. I am talking about help from God the almighty. My heart goes out to the Moise family and every Haitian who is suffering from this very disturbing news. I know the feeling. Just know that I am praying for all of usl. I am praying for clarity, justice, peace, and love. We have no control of the past but we can make better decisions for the future.
If you are Haitian reading this blog, I encourage you to not give up on our country. It gets darker just before the sun comes out. If you are not Haitian reading this blog, I ask that you keep Haiti in your prayers. Thank you in advance. Please feel free to comment below and don’t forget to subscribe for more updates.
